“今天我们要学习的是‘清热解毒’这一课。” teacher’s voice was soft but firm as usual. The classroom was quiet, except for the soft rustling of leaves outside. Two students were sitting next to each other, one with bright red hair and the other with black. Their eyes met briefly before falling on their textbooks.
“Who can tell me what happens when someone ingests a poison?” teacher called out. The student with black hair raised his hand. “It depends on the type of poison, its quantity, and most importantly, the victim’s condition!”
The red-haired boy looked at him suspiciously. “Are you sure about that?” he said coldly.
“Don’t doubt me,” the black-haired student mocked him. “This is basic knowledge.”
Suddenly, a strange smell filled the classroom. Both boys turned their heads towards the window.
“Quick, describe what you see!” teacher shouted.
The red-haired boy opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted by the black-haired girl. “I see something in the background of the tree.”
“Wrong,” the red-haired boy said, blocking her view. “It’s a plant, just like we were studying.”
The classroom fell silent.
The boy took a deep breath and spoke without looking up. “It’s not just any plant.” His voice was calm but firm. “Its name is… Grass medicine.”
“Why are you talking about this?” the girl asked, confusion in her eyes.
“Because I know what happened yesterday,” he said simply. The room turned cold.
The black-haired girl hesitated for a moment before speaking. “What happened yesterday?” she demanded.
“Yesterday, my mother died.”
The red-haired boy didn’t say anything.
When he finally spoke, it was in a monotone voice. “She wanted me to take care of you.”
The room was filled with stunned silence.
“Then, today,” the girl said slowly, her eyes wide with disbelief, “you’re going to become her?”
The red-haired boy didn’t respond.
When he finally did speak, it was with a calm detachment. “I’ve always been your father.”
The black-haired girl’s eyes widened in horror. “You… you’ve been manipulating me all this time!”
“Don’t question me now,” the red-haired boy said coldly. “Only focus on what we’re supposed to do.”
As the class dismissed, the two students were left alone.
The girl’s mind raced with conflicting emotions—fear, anger, and confusion.
But she knew there was no time for reflection.
“Let me take you somewhere,” the red-haired boy said smoothly.
The classroom door shut behind them as they exited the school.
The black-haired girl hesitated before following.
As they walked in the dark alley, a faint sound came from behind them.
“Who are you?” a deep voice asked.
They both turned to face it.
The figure was tall and imposing, with sharp features and intense eyes. He raised a hand, and an oily glow emanated.
“You’re supposed to be my father,” the girl said quietly.
The man’s expression softened briefly before returning to his former cold demeanor.
“Then it’s time for you to live up to your name.”
Without another word, he turned and vanished into the night.
The black-haired girl was left alone in the alley, her heart racing.
She needed to find someone she could trust.
But who would that be?
